  • Service my car today. The Taman Midah service centre is packed with cars! I think it is an excellent move (!!) to service your vehicle regularly or according to the specifications required. More over, the CNY festival is around the corner, good idea to make sure your vehicle is in good condition before traveling!

  • Sandbagging in Chess

I recently come to know about this word. “Sandbagging” mean deceiving someone by pretend to be weak. In sports that uses handicap system like golf and bowling, there are people who try to cheat by pretending they are weak like purposely loses.

This is also happening in Chess although we seldom see it in Malaysia because we don’t normally have many tournaments based on multiple rating/class. But for countries or Chess servers that practice tournaments with different rating class, we can see that there are people lower their rating by purposely lost their games so that they are eligible to enter a weaker tournament in order to win.

  • Fischer Random Chess or 960 Chess

Fischer Random Chess (FRC) was first suggested by World Champion Bobby Fischer.

The board and chess pieces are the same except the pieces are randomly arranged at the back-rank. It is more tactical and promote creativity rather than memorizing Opening theory. The piece movements are the same except for Castling, that introduce a rule where the King must be placed between 2 Rooks. The other rule is to have opposite colour Bishops. A total of 960 different combination of starting positions can be arranged thus it is also called 960 Chess.

So far, I have yet to see any tournament organized (at least for myself) in Kuala Lumpur but seems to be getting popular in other countries. A lot of Chess server provide this game for members.

Recently I played a few games on the Internet and find it quite nice as you are not handicapped by Opening Theory :( .
